End Times Prophecy: 7 Biblical Signs That Jesus’ Return Is Near
Are we living in end times? It is a question that many of us have, and it is a very good thing that we do question it. No one knows when, not even Jesus! So we need to be sure we are ready to stand in judgment and be welcomed into Heaven and not turned away.
“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” — Luke 21:28
For centuries, believers have studied Bible prophecy and wondered what the world would look like before the return of Jesus Christ. Today, many Christians see events unfolding around the globe and ask an important question:
Are we living in the End Times?
While no one knows the exact day or hour of Christ’s return (Matthew 24:36), Jesus gave clear signs that would increase as His coming approaches. The purpose of prophecy is not to create fear but to inspire faith, readiness, and hope.
Let’s explore seven major End Times signs described in Scripture and what they may mean for believers today.
1. Increasing Wars and Global Conflict
Jesus warned that one of the first signs would be growing instability among nations.
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars... Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” (Matthew 24:6-7)
Throughout history there have been wars, but now with modern technology it allows conflicts to be broadcast through the entire world, including fake news. Political tensions, military alliances, terrorism, and global threats have created an atmosphere of uncertainty unlike any previous generation.
Jesus said these events would be like the beginning of birth pains, signs that something greater is approaching.
2. Natural Disasters Will Increase
The Bible tells us that there will be an increase of earthquakes, famines, and other natural disturbances.
“There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” (Matthew 24:7)
In recent decades, the world has witnessed devastating earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, wildfires, and droughts. While disasters have always occurred, their frequency and impact often lead many believers to consider Christ’s prophetic warnings.
Nations themselves seems to be groaning under the weight and troubles of a fallen world.
“The whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth.” (Romans 8:22)
3. Moral Decline and Rejection of Truth
One of the clearest signs Jesus described is a widespread turning away from God.
“Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12)
The Apostle Paul painted a striking picture of the last days:
“People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive...” (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
Today, many biblical values are openly challenged. With social media this is very easy and wide spread. Self-centeredness, confusion, and spiritual apathy have become increasingly common. Yet amid the darkness, God continues to call people to repentance and salvation.
4. The Gospel Will Reach the Whole World
Not every End Times sign is negative. One of the most exciting prophecies involves the spread of the Gospel.
“This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)
For the first time in history, technology allows the message of Jesus Christ to reach nearly every corner of the earth instantly through television, radio, websites, social media, and Bible translation efforts.
Millions are hearing the Gospel every day. What once seemed impossible, is now happening before our eyes.
5. Israel’s Role in Prophecy
Israel occupies a central place in biblical prophecy.
In 1948, Israel became a nation again after nearly 2,000 years of dispersion. Many prophecy scholars view this as one of the most significant prophetic events of modern history.
Jesus referred to Israel symbolically when He spoke of the fig tree:
“When its branch becomes tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.” (Matthew 24:32)
The restoration of Israel continues to be a focal point in discussions about the End Times and God’s prophetic timeline.
6. Deception and False Teachers
Jesus repeatedly warned believers about deception. And in this time and age it is very easy to be deceived.
“For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.” (Matthew 24:5)
Today there is an overwhelming amount of information available online, making it easier than ever for false teachings to spread.
The Bible encourages believers to test everything against God’s Word.
“Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits.” (1 John 4:1)
As the End Times approach, discernment becomes increasingly important. Discernment and knowing the truth is up to you, it is all in the bible.
7. A Growing Sense That Something Is About to Happen
Many people, believers and non-believers alike, feel that the world is changing rapidly, too rapidly.
Economic uncertainty, technological advancements, global surveillance capabilities, artificial intelligence, social unrest, and unprecedented worldwide events have caused many to wonder what lies ahead.
Jesus described a generation that would be watching and waiting.
“When you see all these things, know that it is near—right at the door!” (Matthew 24:33)
The Bible teaches that believers should remain spiritually alert rather than spiritually asleep.
What Should Christians Do in the End Times?
The purpose of prophecy is not to encourage fear, it encourages us to read the bible and to be ready.
1. Stay Close to Jesus
Your relationship with Christ matters more than understanding every prophetic detail.
“Abide in Me.” (John 15:4)
Spend time in prayer, worship, and scripture daily.
2. Share the Gospel
Jesus commanded His followers to make disciples. These signs of the times should motivate believers to reach family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers with the message of salvation.
3. Live with Hope
The return of Christ is not a frightening event for believers, it is a blessed hope.
“We wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13)
No matter how dark the world becomes, Christians know how the story ends.
4. Keep Your Faith Strong
Trials may increase, but God remains faithful.
“He who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
Trust God even when circumstances seem uncertain.
The Greatest Prophecy of All
The most important prophecy is not about wars, disasters, or world events. It is the promise that Jesus Christ is coming again. And when He does return, He will establish His kingdom, wipe away every tear, defeat evil forever, and bring eternal peace to those who belong to Him.
“Surely I am coming soon.” (Revelation 22:20)
The question is not merely whether we are living in the End Times, the real question is:
Are you ready to meet the Lord?
For those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, the future is not something to fear, it is something to eagerly anticipate coming into His presence.
