Their oldest son Malik who is 19, was charged with stabbing his brother and sister to death and stabbing his father. This shocked the Colorado Springs community. Let's take you back to that day, it was about one o'clock in the morning on October 17th, 2017.
Vincent says the painful part of this is it was just a normal happy day:
"We kind of did the same routine that we always do, you know had dinner and it was a nice night, so we we're all outside as a family and even Malik because not all the time Malik comes."
He recalls a happy night as Malik was out there playing with Vinnie and Elijah and Noah, they were all playing football. After the evening ended they did the whole bedtime routine. Her last sentence was, "Mommy loves you."
Vincent recalls that horrific night:
"Shortly after 1 am Vincent awoke to the sound of Sophia's voice saying "No Malik No! I got up, as soon as I reached the threshold of the doorway Malik turned, met me face to face, his hand went up, and the knife went down in my neck. I pushed him through the door of the garage and yelled for help."
Malik had been in and out of treatment centers for thoughts of violence, but he never acted on them and therapists cleared him to be back at home.

Melissa recalls hearing Vincent in the garage yelling "Sophia's been stabbed." She ran inside, she didn't know where they were, so she ran down only to find Sophia and Noah stabbed, she knew they were both gone.
Home for Malik right now is at the El Paso County Correctional Center. Mom has been here to see him at least a half dozen times. Dad has been as well, but both will never forget that very first time visiting him following the stabbing deaths of Noah and Sophia. Vincent recall that it was hard for him to visit. There was a lot pent up frustrations and anger.
Malik told his parents that he had things he wants to say, so he sat down with his attorney and told him everything that he wanted to say to Melissa and Vincent, but his attorney advised Malik not to say those things.
Melissa remembers giving advice back to Malik. She told him that attorneys are going to give you good courtroom advice, but there's also moral advice and that's going to be different than from what they give you. She told Malik the he does owe his dad and her an apology and an explanation.
